Apple TV Error – Verification Required

Just resolved a problem for a customer who was presented with the following error message on his Apple TV when he tried to purchase something: “verification required – before you can make purchases you must go to the iTunes store on your computer and verify your payment information.” After battling with itunes for an hour and scouring the interweb, pudjam666 on the Apple Support Forum finally provided me with the required information to resolve the issue. It’s actually quite simple…

  1. Go to your itunes store on PC/Mac and go to the user account (top right hand corner – usually your email address)

  2. Enter your account password when prompted

  3. Next thing you see is your account overview. From here we’ll select “Edit Payment Information” (second from top right)

  4. You’ll notice a message in red at the top of this page. In my screenshot you will not see anything other than a normal screen though.

  5. Scroll to the bottom and press “Done”.

  6. You are back at the account overview. Press “Done” once more to exit.

  7. Now reboot your Apple TV (don’t do “Standby”) – unplug the power cable and plug it back in again.
  8. Now try logging on to your iTunes account on the Apple TV again and purchase something!

This worked for my client and I hope it will work for you too. Let me know.

    i would like to tell you this was perfectly helpful for me. additionally, just for fun, as soon as i hit ‘done’, i went directly back to the appletv, and it worked without a reboot. (i still rebooted it anyway, after my movie downloaded.)

    If you followed these instructions and your apple TV continued to give you the same message…TRY AGAIN!….I tried for the first time (unplug included) and still got the message. I came back to my Mac on itunes store, did the verification again, went back to my apple TV, unplugged it, plugged it and it worked! Thanks pudjam666!

    When one gets to the screen on the ATV that says Verification Required. STOP.

    Go to your computer and follow steps 1-4 of AXEL’s solution. The red line on the screen on step 4 was just put there by your ATV. So finish step 4 entering your CCV code and press DONE as in step 5 and then press Done again on the next screen as in Step 6 to exit your personal account review.

    Next go immediately back to the ATV and press the OK button under the VERIFICATION REQUIRED screen.

    This worked for me.

    For me that i use an i tune gift card it worked.

    Just click Done on payment info, then Done again at the main info page. Close I tunes and opened back and Waaallaaaaa.. Thanks broda!! cheers from Panama……
