F1 Indianapolis Farce – Bring on A1

If you are a keen F1 follower you are probably as pissed off as I am with the current state of affairs! The USA Grand Prix was a complete farce, with only 6 cars racing and 11 retiring before the race even began. Ferrari, Minardi and Jordan – on Bridgestone tires – were the only ones out on the track after Michellin tires discovered severe problems after the Canadian GP.

120,000 fans in the grand stands stamped their feet in disgust and a lot walked out. Some even threw bottles and cans onto the track, dangerous, silly but understandable. If they count this race, I think it’ll be my last season following F1. Stupid new regulations, lack of commonsense and a disregard of what fans want is destroying the sport.

Bring on A1 I say, the new top of the line motor sport and F1 contenter, which is set to kick off on 25 September 2005 in Brands Hatch (UK) according to the press release of 25 May 2005. A1 means everyone is racing in the same car and there is only one team per country, with a driver from that country. In my humble opinion this makes sense and sounds very interesting indeed. We’ll see what the future holds.
