I ordered a 15″ iLap stand for my beloved Powerbook from a German online retailer (or e-tailer) called Arktis.de on May 8, 2006. Nothing interesting there so far but Arktis.de is one of those few e-tailers that think they can get away without communicating vital information to their customers. Like stock levels for example…

How disapointed and frankly pissed off are you when you find out after placing an order for a not-quite-so-cheap product that it will be delivered later? How angry will you be when you find out it’s gonna take them a month and not just a few days or a week?

Yup, ordered on the 8th, ETA on delivery 26th! Nice and of course by the end of the month the heat was over (replaced by grey skies and rain – just like London…). So I ordered and paid(?) for a product to save my lap from turning into roast beef and it will be delivered when it’s all over. Just great.

Well, it’s passed the 26th now and still no iLap, so I checked the order screen again and now they tell me it’ll be here in 3-5 working days! LOL – I bet next week they tell me they ordered the wrong product and it’ll take another three months. Fuck this, I cancelled and complained to the consumer protection place they’ve got over here.

What really pisses me off is that when I ran my own business I would move heaven and earth to hold up the deal I had with my customer. If I had to take a hit on a product that was out of stock, then I’d happily paid excess charges to get it rushed from the next warehouse in the name of customer satisfaction and positive Word-of-Mouth (free PR)!

I don’t understand how companies cannot care, why people don’t care? Good things happen to good people, or sometimes they don’t. Be warned folks… it’s an “I’ll grab your money and piss in your face World” out there

It’s old news that Mac is dropping Moto/IBM in favour of Intel but for many Mac fans it is still a hard-to-believe scenario. But rumors regaring dual-booting Windows and OS X on the same Intel P4 system are true. So is running Windows programms in OS X, albeit with a little more help from an emulator than people are hoping for.

I am currently planning a new multimedia and gaming system to replace my old mini-ITX Epia M9000 and would love to run OS X. So, what should I do?

Buying a new or even slightly older G4 or dual G5 system would be really nice to have yet dreadfully expensive still. Until Apple at least presents the new Intel systems to the public (exepected by some around next year’s CeBit in Hannover), prices of current Moto/IBM systems will not fall.

The smart choice, IMHO, would be to buy a nice new dual core Intel system. With SATA2, DDR2, PCI-E and basically all the features of the latest of the G5 incarnation, in one word: power! A system with a 500GB RAID5, 2GB RAM, 256MB Video and super fast CPU would still be cheaper than one of Apple’s beauties (by roughly 1.000€ at my reckoning).

So what’s the downside? Well, it’s cheaper but it will be Windows of course. Or so it seemed when I set out to find what’s going on in Apple’s RnD.

To cut a really interesting project and long story short: check out http://osx86project.org or http://osx86.theplaceforitall.com/howto/ if you want to know how you can run OS X 10.4 (Tiger) on your Intel system today!

I for one will be investing into the new dual core Intel platform and keep a disc handy for OSX86. I shall post my experiences here – so whatch this space.

This is not an April fools joke but a dream finally coming true! Apple announced at this years WWDC that its software will run on both PowerPC (Motorola) and Intel platforms from 2006. This will enable much cheaper Apple hardware and finally a user friendly, stable and beautifull GUI on an IBM compatible personal computer. Apple has now released a Developer Transition Kit to aid development and beta testing. It is available for $999 from Apple’s Developer Network.

Apple also suggested dual booting with Windows and more compatibility with Windows programs. Although this might be initially archieved through an emulator but later could run natively.

Imagine the possibilities. Microsoft be afraid, be very afraid
